3.1.Lucius Virius Lupus Legatus Britannia 197 -201 AD * 160 A.D.; * aft 205 A.D..
Virius Lupus was a Roman soldier and politician of the late second and early third century AD.
He served as a legatus of one of the German provinces and supported Septimus Severus during the civil war that followed the murder of Pertinax. In 196 his troops were defeated by Decimus Clodius Albinus as the fight for the throne intensified.
He would have served as consul some time previously and became governor of Roman Britain once Severus was made emperor in 197.
Severus sent him to Britain immediately to recover the province from the rebellions that had swept it following Clodius Albinus' removal of most of the garrison to press his claim for the throne the previous year.
In the north he was obliged to buy peace from the Maeatae. Fearful that they would ally with the Caledonian Confederacy and unable to secure troop reinforcements from Severus, Lupus had no choice but to pay the rebels in return for their withdrawal and the return of a few prisoners. Lupus slowly restored the forts in the Pennines to Roman control although Hadrian's Wall was not rebuilt until c. 205.
His governorship was assisted by the arrival of Sextus Varius Marcellus as provincial procurator and in who can be seen the germ of the later division of Britain into two provinces.
He served as governor until 201 or 202.

Virius Lupus

Governor of Britannia from AD197 to 200/202

"... It chanced, however, that in an earlier battle Albinus had defeated Lupus, one of Severus's generals, and had slain many of his soldiers."
Cassius Dio History of Rome LXXVI.vi.2 (AD197)
"Inasmuch as the Caledonii¹ did not abide by their promises and had made ready to aid the Maeatae,² and in view of the fact that Severus at the time was devoting himself to the neighbouring war,² Lupus was to purchase peace from the Maeatae for a large sum; and he received a few captives."
Cassius Dio History of Rome LXXV.v.4 (c.AD197/8)
A tribe from the highlands of Scotland, beyond the Forth-Clyde line.
The Maeatae were possibly not a tribe as such, but was rather the name given to confederation of tribes who lived north of Hadrian's Wall.
This statement is probably in reference to the continued conflicts in Gaul against factions loyal to the renegade Albinus.

12.2.Saint Lupo Lupis of Troyes * Ieul, Metz, Moselle, Lorraine, France, abt 383 A.D.; * 478 A.D.. San Lupo di Troyes Vescovo
29 luglio
Toul, Alsazia, 383 c.

Saint Vincent was born in Toul in Gaul; he was the brother of Saint Lupus, Bishop of Troyes, who was a companion of Saint Germanus of Auxerre. Saint Vincent was first a soldier, then left the world to become a monk of the renowned monastery of Lerins, where he was also ordained priest. He is known for his Commonitorium, which he wrote as an aid to distinguish the true teachings of the Church from the confusions of heretics; his most memorable saying is that Christians must follow that Faith which has been believed "everywhere, always, and by all." He wrote the Commonitorium about the year 434, three years after the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus, which he mentions in the Commonitorium, and defends calling the holy Virgin Theotokos, "She who gave birth to God," in opposition to the teachings of Nestorius which were condemned at the Third Council.
Saint Vincent reposed in peace about the year 445.
